Dr. You has broad expertise in intellectual property matters including involvement in all phases of the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and advising a diverse clientele, including multi-national corporations, small and medium enterprises, startup companies, universities, and institutes on a wide range of intellectual property issues. He specializes in technologies including electronic circuits, computer hardware and software, electromechanical devices, electrical machinery, robotics, autonomous vehicles, security and cryptography, and e-commerce and Internet-related technologies.
Dr. You worked as a Patent Examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as well as the Korean Intellectual property Office (KIPO). He is the first person who worked as a Patent Examiner in both countries. Dr. You worked as a patent attorney in Korea.
Dr. You previously worked for Rabin & Berdo, where he prosecuted patent applications, provided IP counseling, prepared patentability opinions for foreign clients, and prepared patent licensing agreements for clients. Dr. You also worked for 5T International Patent Law Firm in Korea, where he drafted and prosecuted patent applications, prepared appeal briefs and argued appeals before the Board of Patent Appeals in the Korean Intellectual Property Office. He also prepared validity and infringement opinions, foreign filing advisory opinions, and participated in patent infringement litigation in the District court in Korea. Dr. You has experience in foreign practices included overseeing the prosecution of numerous patent applications before the Japanese Patent Office, European Patent Office, Chinese Patent Office, and Taiwan Patent Office.
Dr. You worked for Center for Technology Licensing of Cornell University as a visiting scholar and Technology Licensing Office of Inha University as a patent advisor and professor. While working in both universities, he interviewed inventors, evaluated invention disclosures, prepared joint research agreements, and licensed patented technologies. He also published a book titled "Technology Transfer of Cornell University".
